15 Game Reviews w/ Response

All 66 Reviews

(Continuing from IER1's review...I think)

Good news: I found one of my flash players was able to run this with practically no lag at all! Now I can actually give a more thorough review aside from lag:

First of all, I adore the music choice here. Everything from the creepy undertones of the menu music to the country boss battle of stage 13.

Secondly, art is even more amazing, obviously...

Third and foremost, (and this is probably just a me thing) but I this game is incredibly captivating and quite addicting. Just the feeling of getting those upgrades and fighting against the immune system is so satisfying. I understand a lot of people probably find the gameplay repeative, and to be fair it can be a bit daunting after campaign mode. But I really just think it's a unique, investing skill concept.

I also think it actually makes sense the game gets harder over time; the whole point of the game is to "evolve" your character, and the more you evolve, the more enviornmental pressure there is to keep going. I wonder if it's possible to get to 100% at one point...

Regardless, I still think IER is an intriguing experience if you're both a fan of microbiology and video games. While it does have it's flaws, it'll hopefully keep you captivated enough for a long, long while.

(Side note: it's my personal head canon this germ is a mutation of multiple germs over the decades. It has the white blood cell killing abilities of HIV, the resistance to antibiotics like MRSA, and the invasive red blood cell infections of malaria.)

IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE: After stage 26, weird darker..."white" blood cells begin to spawn, and you can't kill them. I imagine this is just a glitch due to the fact this game is literally 13 years old, but it still gets a bit frustrating.

HeRetiK responds:

Thanks for taking the time to write such an in-depth review! :)

The unkillable white blood cells are actually not a glitch; if you see them it means you've reached a point where the game is trying its hardest to kill the player off before the performance issues kick in. Basically trying to put a soft-cap on how far the player can get. Ahh... game design!

Also, fun fact: Malaria is what inspired the first game :)

Definitely see a step up from the previous game! I especially love the improvement in art and animation. Not to mention, even though I can obviously tell where the inspiration came from, there's still a lot of original ideas and dialogue in this. If there were some critiques, please make more of the rooms usable (like the boy's bedroom or some of the classrooms), and clarify what puzzles do, like the circuit breaker puzzle. And also...why is there so many "drag away the papers" puzzles? Other than tho, a really solid game!

Kule1Toxic responds:

Very late to respond, but thanks for the reply anyways.
Also I just like the dragging paper puzzle too much to only use it once.

This actually was way better than what I was expecting. The sudden challenge and reaction time really if fun! Rage fitting, but fun!

Pciphidic responds:

thank you newgrounds user 97OldGrounder

Very fantastic. The concept of a game where you control 2 players has been done, but you managed to take the concept and turn it even better with the 2d and 3d elements.

dietzribi responds:

Thanks!

The art may not be my standards, but it's actually not to shabby! I'm quite actually impressed on how you gradually improved to make a half decent game.

Spongescratch1 responds:

3 Stars! thank you!

It's pretty good for what it is, especially the concept, art and music, but many issues are present:
- Bullets are hard to distinguish; in the boss fight of Stage 1 it was especially bad; it took me a while to realize the green + explode to bullet thingies. Infact, the bullets are way too easy to dodge. I'll elaborate on this later.
- Pretty glitchy when you lose lives; the quality of art makes it hard for me to tell when I'm touching or not touching something, so sometimes it seems I touch something when I didn't.
- Boring gameplay; i can literally just spam Z and easily kill everything, sure, it's not efficient, as I'll lose lives frequently, but if you wanted me not to just spam and hurry up with the level, put a pause between shoots.
- The enemies are very poorly done. They're too easy to avoid and kill, especially in stage one. The ghosts are too easy, the eyeballs are to easy to dodge, and the clusters? Just use X.
- The bosses...oh the bosses...
Ok, the stage one boss? It was so anger inducing. The first stage of the first boss had bullet like things spammed across the screen, which made it hard to concentrate but once again, all I had to do was spam Z and wait for him to lose all his HP. And the second stage of the first boss? Oh...don't even get me on it! It's a HUGE spiral and it's extremely hard to know how to avoid the spiral. Now, one review said there's a blind spot you have to go to, but I couldn't find it, so I quite literally gave up on the end of Stage 1. I'd critique Stage 2 and beyond but is Stage 1 was this anger inducing, who knows how terrible the next stages are.
Overall, the game is REALLY mediocre, in fact I have no idea why it got front paged. Just fix up a few things, like making the monsters SOMEHWAT hard to avoid. If you were to improve this, I'd probably rate it 3.5/5 instead.

F1Krazy responds:

Yeah, I know that review also mentioned how infuriating it would be if you couldn't find the blind spot, and it seems that's very much true.

I'm currently working on an update that will tweak the game's difficulty, so I'll try and make the first stage a little more interesting and tweak the first boss's patterns as well. Hopefully you will enjoy the game more once that update comes out.

Decent for what it is. Fun fact: Graeme (2LeftThumbs) talked about this when I brought up that animation you were telling me about.

DemideviDude responds:

Really where

It..was a thing. Since I'm to lazy to do my classic review style, I'll just say:
1. Glitchy.
2. Short.
3. (Okay?) Attempt At Art.
4. Actually That's It.

Nerdproductions responds:

The sequel is coming soon

Good in concept, flawed in execution.
WHY ITS FLAWED IN EXECUTION:
- Low quality artwork.
- Too short.
- Too easy.
WHY ITS GOOD IN CONCEPT:
- A guy going to find an energy ball to get eternal life is a pretty good and creativity premise,
albeit cliché though..

BRUHMAAAAN responds:

yeah its easy, but its just like a training for me,future games are gonna be better
and also this is based in the animation so thats why the art is like this
